Updates

Ok, the last post is ~5 months old, so i guess it's time for some updates. We begin to like Nuremberg althoug it still can't beat Regensburg and i guess it never will.
There are many big news however. The first is that i'm marrying my lovely fiancee Andrea in June this year, the preparations are running at full steam.
In even bigger news i'm glad to announce that we're getting a baby :D It is due in September, but taking in account how active and agile it showed up on the ultrasonic i'd not be surprised if it wants to get out more early ;)

At the studies front i've started wrting my master thesis at Suse. I'm working on kode which is a project to automatically generate appealing GUIs from XML Schemas. Progress is goin well. More updates "soon" ;)

Update!!!

Wow, a lot of things happened since my last post. First of all, we've moved to Nuremberg. It was a hell of a relocation, but i really don't want to talk about it.
Now that I can officially call me a "Diplom-Informatiker" ;) I've started my M.Sc. study at the FH Nürnberg. There are not too many courses but in contrast to the courses i attended in Regensburg they are a lot more time consuming. That means that i have to give presentations and sucking stuff like that. But the good thing is that it won't last that long. If all things go well i'll finish the studies in ~12 months :D

I've also got a job already. I'm employed as a working studen by Suse which is great!!! I can work on linux and am getting paid for it. I can't think of anything better than this. Plus i don't only work on linux but i work on a KDE tool which is even more what i like to do. And chances are good that i can do the master thesis there, too.

On the Kopete front there's not much to tell. I'm polishing the Yahoo plugin for Kopete 1.0 now and then but i really don't find much time for it lately. I hope that will change somewhen not too far in the future.

I proudly present: Kopete Privacy Plugin

Ever got annoyed by a spam bot or something? Times of suffer are over with the release of the Privacy Plugin for Kopete.
The plugin lets you filter messages either by sender or by content.
For sender filtering there are four different policies
  • Allow all messages
    Disable message filtering by sender
  • Allow messages only from contacts on my contactlist
This option drops all messages from contacts not on your contactlist
  • Allow messages only from contacts on the whitelist
You can specify a whitelist. All messages from contacts not on this list are dropped.
  • Allow all messages but messages from contacts on the blacklist
You can specify a blacklist. All messages from contacts on this list are dropped.
Additionally you can blacklist words. Messages that contain those words (either any of the first wordlist or all of the second one) are dropped.

I bet this plugin will make some people happy :)

Today's the day :)

Today, after 11 months of hard work, i finally finished my thesis "Lageunabhängige Erkennung von Objekten". That had really bugged me lately, but now everything has turned good at the end.
:D

I'd like to thank my beautiful girlfriend Andrea for helping me in these times :) It would have been much hurder without your help.

On other news: Kopete 0.12 has finally moved to the KDE 3.5.x branch, which means that it will be shiped with KDE 3.5.5, which is exptected to be released on October 10th. Kopete 0.12 is much more stable than the old good Kopete 0.11 series with a bunch of new features. I bet many users will be happy about that.

Edit: Here's a picture of the printed version of my thesis. Pretty, isn't it :)

Kopete 0.12.1

Today Kopete 0.12.1 was released. It has a fix for the ICQ "Your client is too old" annoyance and many other fixes. The Yahoo fixes are:
  • fix crash after canceled filetransfers
  • fix buddy icon uploading
  • fix buddy icons disappearing on the other contacts side
  • fix endless spawning of error messages when local YAB looses synch to
  • serverside YAB
  • Notify about server messages

KMail

I always got angry in KMail that i could not go through the list of emails with up- and down-keys. It always scrolled up/down in the email altough i wanted to scroll up/down in the list of emails.
Well, i accidentally found out that you can go through the list with the left- and right-keys :) I'm so glad now.
  • left/right -> scroll the list of emails
  • up/down ->scroll the email itself
It's great.

And it makes me feel a little dumb somehow...

Amarok kicks ass!

I've always been a fan of Amarok because of it's superior GUI and the nice statistics and features. Today I wanted to test it with my new iPod Photo - and I did not get disappionted :)

Mounting out of Amarok did not work, ok, not a big problem. Once i had the device mounted via the media:/-kioslave i could click "connect" in Amarok and it was ready to be filled with music. I could now just drag and drop the files or simply click "Transfer to device" in the context menu and it just works. It even transfers the covers that i downloaded from amazon so that they get displayed on the iPod.

I love Amarok.
